Malawi
Malawi is a small country in the
sudeastern part of Africa. It is one of the five poorest countries in
the world. Almost 90% of the 11 miljon inhabitants live in the rural
areas and are dependent on farming. A few people have a real job and a
regular income. Approximately 50% of the population is illiterate. More
than half of the Malawians is under 15 years of age. Half the amount of
newborn children dies before the age of five. Malawi struggles with
severe poverty and diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, what is the main cause of
death nowadays. In Malawi, per day, an average of 140 people die as a
consequence of AIDS. Of the 11 miljon population, 14,5% is Muslim, 4%
animist, the rest call themselves christians. The Liebenzell Mission
works together with 160 congregations in Malawi.
Projects of the Liebenzell
Mission in Malawi
Chisomo-Centrum in Mbere
The Chisomo-centre provides theological and practical training to pastors
and cabinet-makers. Since 1993, future leaders have the opportunity to
follow this twofold training, so they can provide themselves with income
and they are not dependent on donations of members of the church. Liebenzell Mission works in
Malawi together with the EBCM churches (Evangelical Baptist Church of
Malawi).
Zomba
The teamleader of the LM Malawi team lives in Zomba. He coordinates
the different contacts with our local partners and the headquarters of
Liebenzell Mission International. Another task is the out-of-school
training and coaching of churchleaders of EBCM churches.
Women ministry in Balaka district
Women have an inmportant positian in Malawian society. LM organises
conferences for women to provide them with basic bible knowledge. The
women are encouraged to share this knowledge with other women in and
outside of the churches and within their families. The conferences are
held for women of the EBCM churches within Balaka district.
Ubwenzi project in

a remote area, about 60 kms south of Monkey Bay. We will work together
with family Urschitz from Austria and Debora Jägers from Germany. The
project aimes at developing the area as a wole, but will mainly target
the vulnerable people, such as orphans, chronically ill (Aids-patiënts)
